Hello, I am Christian Prins, emeritus professor in computer science and passionate about paleontology. In this last area, I am not a professional but I am trying to improve! At the beginning I had big problems with identifications. To see things more clearly, I had to read numerous publications in French, English and Russian (unfortunately I don't know German, which is also very useful in paleontology). I warmly thank the specialists who helped me, such as Francis Amédro and William James Kennedy.
I created this site to describe Albian ammonites and help collectors identify them. I hope that pros will also find useful information there, such as interesting specimens. I tried to be as rigorous as possible in the identifications: description, measurements, photos, age (geological stage), provenance and references. An Ammonoidea section explains the descriptive vocabulary of ammonites, an obstacle for beginners. I also added a glossary to define all these terms.
This no-frills site is written in HTML 5 and CSS 3. It does not yet have a "responsive design" and is designed for PCs or Macs with screens of 1800 pixels wide or more.
Here are my few writings in paleontology and mineralogy. For journals, I put the ISSN at the first occurrence only:
